Child star, film actress, recording artist, stage performer, Garland embodies the complete artist whose historical contribution to 20th century American popular music is uncontested. She needs no hagiographic halos. There are others who sang, but as Whoopi Goldberg so succinctly put it, “When Judy Garland sang God spoke.”
Here is compiler Lawrence Schulman's selection from JSP's 4CD set (JSP965). Included are transcriptions from the two long-lost demo acetates the young Judy recorded when she was still 'Ethel Gumm'.
