Description

It wasn't until the deaths of his parents in the late 1980s that Shelton Powe turned his attention to music, picking up the instruments his mother bought him and encouraged him to play as a boy. He became reacquainted with the rhythms and melodies of the old songs his parents used to sing, developing a finger-style guitar playing and a repertoire of Piedmont blues.
In this collection Shelton returns to his earliest influence, the music that surrounded him growing up in Church. His songs come to him in musical flash-backs, he finds himself a child sitting in a pew vibrating with the harmonies of the elders in his Baptist church.
These songs were recorded on the hottest days of summer in Music Maker Foundation's studio in Fountain, NC. You'll hear Sam Duffy's accompaniment on mandolin and on "Daniel in the Lions Den," "Jesus on the Mainline," and "Do Lord," Shelton shares vocal duties with three generations of gospel singers - Johnny Ray Daniels, Anthony Daniels, and KeAmber Daniels.
