She was real blues history! In her youth Katie was a member of the Otis Redding Band; then she started her own career. As a child she listened to the boogie woogie stars Pete Johnson, Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis. She learned also a lot from the musicians who lived in her neighbourhood, Lightnin’ Slim and Slim Harpo, who created the Swamp Blues. On this CD – a live-recording from Greece – you can hear what great artist Katie was! She was known by her fans as Two fisted mama, Piano pounding, soul-singin’ swamp boogie queen !

A pesar de los años transcurridos desde su fallecimiento, Katie Webster sigue siendo todavía recordada con cariño y admirada por todos los aficionados al blues. Considerada la reina del swamp blues, sin haber sido hasta el momento destronada, empezó su carrera como miembro y organista de la banda de Otis Redding, pero su amor por el piano y las influencias recibidas de los pianistas Pete Johnson, Alber Ammons, Meade “Lux” Lewis y pantanosos guitarristas como Lightnin’ Slim o el también guitarrista y armonicista Slim Harpo, la hicieron decidirse a iniciar una carrera en solitario. La compañía austriaca Wolf Records que siempre nos ofrece grandes e históricos álbumes del blues más puro, auténtico y genuino, recupera en esta ocasión una memorable actuación de Katie Webster cantando y tocando el piano en solitario en unas grabaciones efectuadas en Atenas, Grecia el doce de noviembre de 1990. Entre otras perlas de su repertorio podemos encontrar “I Want You To Love Me”, “Katie’s Boogie”, “Two Fisted Mama”, “I’m Bad” e incluso el tema “Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay”, uno de los grandes clásicos de Otis Redding. Although many years have gone passing by after her death, Katie Webster still is lovely remembered and admired by all blues fans. Considered the one and only swamp blues queen, with no heiress till now, she began her career as a member and organist in Otis Redding’s band, but her love for piano and the influences of pianists like Pete Johnson, Alber Ammons, Meade "Lux" Lewis or swampy guitarists such as Lightnin' Slim or guitar and harmonica player Slim Harpo, made up her mind to start a solo career. Austrian label Wolf Records, which always offers great historic albums of the purest, genuine and real blues, now gets back an unforgettable Katie Webster’s recording singing and playing piano solo in Athens, Greece on November, 12th. 1990. Among other beautiful pearls of her repertoire only mention "I Want You To Love Me", "Katie's Boogie", "Two Fisted Mama", "I'm Bad" and even the song "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay", one of the greatest Otis Reddin’s classics. This is an excellent album to enjoy the attack, wildness and intense feeling Katie Webster always communicates. GREAT.
